Comeback Against #14 UMass Lowell Falls Short for Men’s Hockey

Fusco records his first multi-point game
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team fell to #14 UMass Lowell, 3-2, in non-conference action on Friday evening at Thompson Arena.
Dartmouth moves to 1-9-1 while UMass Lowell is now 10-6-1 on the season.
John Fusco and Luke Haymes scored for the Big Green. Fusco also chipped in an assist to claim the first multi-point game of his career. Joey Musa, Matt Hubbarde and Sean Chisholm had assists as well. Cooper Black made 22 saves in net for Dartmouth.
Gabe Blanchard, Ben Meehan and Stefan Owens each scored for UMass Lowell. Carl Berglund provided two assists while Gustavs Davis Grigals made 24 saves to take the win.
The River Hawks opened the scoring midway into the first period when Blanchard snuck one past Black. UMass Lowell added to their lead inside the first five minutes of the second period. Dartmouth had killed off the penalty, but the River Hawks scored seconds later to double the lead.
The Big Green cut into the deficit just minutes later when Fusco scored his second goal over the last three games. After forcing a turnover in their defensive zone, Dartmouth pushed numbers forward. Hubbarde played the puck out to the right side along the boards into the UMass Lowell defensive zone to Musa. Fusco burst forward, getting in front of the River Hawk defenseman as Musa made the perfect pass toward goal, and got their first to redirect it past Grigals to put the Big Green on the board.
The Big Green piled on the pressure toward the end of the game, pulling Black in favor of the extra attacker. Haymes scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season to pull Dartmouth within one. Fusco's initial shot was blocked, but the puck was loose until a diving Chisholm fired one toward goal, finding Haymes at the back post for the tap-in.
Dartmouth takes the trip to Burlington on Sunday for a non-conference tilt with the Vermont Catamounts. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
