PRINCETON, N.J. — The Dartmouth men's hockey team won their second straight game as they defeated Princeton, 7-3, ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action on Monday evening at Hobey Baker Rink.
Dartmouth improves to 5-17-3, 4-12-2 while Princeton falls to 8-14-2, 7-9-1. Dartmouth is now 2-6-1 in Ivy League play this season. Princeton moves to 5-1.
The seven goals tonight were the most the Big Green have scored in a single game this season. They had seven different goal scorers.
Clay Stevenson made his presence known, making 34 saves, while the Dartmouth defense blocked 23 shots.
The Big Green opened the scoring inside the opening two and a half minutes.
Sam Hesler forced a turnover from the Princeton defense that fell perfectly into the path of
Matt Hubbarde for a first-time shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth added to their lead just minutes later when the Tigers committed a turnover in their own defensive zone.
Sean Chisholm stepped up and fired one towards goal that found its way into the back of the net to give the Big Green a 2-0 lead five minutes into the first period.
Princeton cut into the deficit shortly after the media timeout after a turnover from the Big Green below the goal. Adam Robbins played the puck in front of goal to Finn Evans who was able to get it past
Clay Stevenson.
The Big Green responded with under three minutes remaining in the opening period when they scored their 12
th power play goal of the season.
Harrison Markell played the puck to
Nick Unruh who had an incredible solo effort before dumping the puck off to
Joey Musa. Unruh's effort made for an easy backdoor finish for Musa.
Princeton scored their second of the game early in the second period. A delayed penalty gave the Tigers the chance to bring on the extra attacker and they took advantage. Ian Murphy was set up in front of goal and made no mistake with his chance.
Just a few minutes later the Big Green answered when
Jack Cameron scored his second goal of the season. Musa laid it off to Cameron, who ripped one through traffic and into the back of the net to being the lead back to two and give the momentum back to Dartmouth.
Dartmouth continued to pile on the goals as
Mark Gallant got involved in the scoring with his ninth of the season.
Tanner Palocsik played the puck towards and redirected by Chisholm towards Gallant, who was able to smash it into the back of the net to put the Big Green up by three.
The Big Green scored their season-high sixth goal after Markell poked it away to force the turnover and
Braiden Dorfman picked it up. Dorfman strolled in and fired a shot to the right side of the goal for his fifth of the season.
Princeton added a third goal immediately after the media timeout. The Tigers pulled Ethan Pearson to gain the extra attacker and Andonovski was able to punch in a bouncing puck around the front of the goal.
Steven Townley got in on the scoring with under 30 seconds remaining with an empty net goal.
The Big Green defense faced an extra attacker for Princeton for nearly seven minutes as the Tigers tried getting back into the game. Stevenson came up with several saves while the defense put their bodies on the line to block shot after shot.
Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena for the final time this regular season this weekend when they host Quinnpiac on Friday followed by Princeton on Saturday. The Big Green will be honoring the team's five seniors on Saturday.
