BEIJING — While the opening ceremonies for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing will not take place until Friday, the first action of the games took place yesterday with the start of round-robin play in women's hockey. Former Big Green standout Laura Stacey '16 scored two goals to help Team Canada cruise to a 12-1 victory over Switzerland.
Canada wasted little time in taking the lead, scoring the game's first goal barely one minute into the contest. By the end of the first period, the Canadians held a 3-0 advantage.
Stacey put the puck in the back of the net to make it a 5-0 lead, then added another goal to make it 8-0 before the end of the period.
Team Canada will be back in action on Friday night at 11:50 p.m. (EST) when it goes up against Finland.
