ATLANTA, Ga. – The Dartmouth softball team (2-10) fell to Georgia State (10-16) in both games of the doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the Bob Heck Softball Complex. The Panthers won by scores of 9-0 and 6-0.
Game 1: Dartmouth 0, Georgia State 9
Billie McFadyen,
Maddie Katona,
Kelly Beaupre, and
Kira La Scola each had a hit for the Big Green in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Brooke Plonka and
Madie Augusto each had two strikeouts on the mound.
The Panthers were led by Daisy Hess, who went for 2-4 with one home run and four RBI. Hallie Adams only allowed four hits while striking out six.
Only the Big Green were able to get a hit in the opening inning as McFadyen started things off by singling down the left field line. Plonka faced four batters in the bottom half of the inning, forcing a fly out to right field and two pop-ups to second base to end the inning.
Georgia State got on the board in the second inning after Plonka walked Emily Brown while the bases were loaded. The Panthers added two more in the third after a Sophie Mooney hit a two-run double to left-center field and then scoring on Sofia Tunon's groundout.
The Panthers scored five more in the sixth, including a grand slam from Hess.
The Big Green left five runners on base.
Game 2: Dartmouth 0, Georgia State 6
Jenna Brown,
Emma Key, Katona, and McFadyen each had one hit for Dartmouth.
Rachel McCarroll and
Megan Hagge each pitched three innings, combining for three strikeouts.
Bailee Richardson led the Panthers as she went 2-2 with one home run, three RBI, and scored once. Mooney also went 2-2 at the plate, hitting a double with two RBI. On the mound, Mooney pitched a complete game, allowing four hits while striking out 10.
Dartmouth started off well, loading the bases in the first but were unable to get on the board as McCarroll flied out to right field to end the inning.
The Panthers carried their momentum from game one into game two as they scored three runs in the opening inning. They added three more in the third, including the two-run shot from Mooney to push the lead to 6-0.
The Big Green left seven runners on base, including three in scoring position.
Dartmouth is back in action with two games tomorrow as they kick off the UGA Classic. The Big Green take on Illinois at 3:30 p.m. followed by a matchup with the hosts, #21 Georgia at 6 p.m. The game against Georgia will be available to watch on the SEC Network.
