Six boats headed to Lake Quinsigamond

In 2019 the varsity heavyweight eights took third place in the Petite Final at the Eastern Sprints.

Three-years later the number three-ranked crew hope to improve on that finish. After not contesting the race in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions the race will resume on Sunday, May 15 in its usual spot on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The Eastern Sprints is the annual rowing championship for the men's Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC). The Rowe Cup is awarded to the heavyweight crew with the most points combined from the results of varsity, junior varsity and freshman races.

Betsy and Mark Gates 1959 Head Coach of Heavyweight Rowing Wyatt Allen expresses his thoughts on the upcoming race. "The team has had a good dual race season and our preparation for Sprints has been solid. Championship season and racing 6 boats across brings new challenges and tight margins. Sunday will be a big challenge for our crews and I know the group is looking forward to testing our speed against the best teams in the East."

Following two-cup victories two weeks ago the Big Green moved up two spots to the number three ranking in the IRA Coaches Poll. The varsity eight has been awarded the top seed and will be paired in their heat with Syracuse, BU, Navy and Holy Cross.
