- The Memorial Challenge – Sunday, May 29 at 3pm EST The Memorial Challenge is a fundraiser workout circuit which started in 2015 in memory of Blaine Steinberg '15 and Torin Tucker '15, who both passed away suddenly in the winter of 2014. Steinberg was a passionate athlete on the Dartmouth women's lacrosse team and in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Tucker was a standout on Dartmouth's Nordic skiing team and member of the Chi Heorot fraternity. The Memorial Challenge's purpose is to celebrate the Dartmouth and Upper Valley community by bringing as many members together to sweat for good. WHAT: Workout Circuit WHO: Everyone in the Upper Valley & Dartmouth Community (all fitness levels welcome) WHEN: Sunday, May 29 at 3PM EST WHERE: Memorial Field COST: $15 per person. All funds raised through registration will be donated to Live Like Blaine, Post 58 and Positive Tracks. This week we're highlighting simple things you can do to take care of yourselves as we gear up for the last weeks of the term. - Mindfulness Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present and engaged in whatever we are doing – athletics, being with others, studying, or simply having a meal. It's a process of being focused on the present moment and letting go of any judgements or distractions. The ability to be mindful is something that we all possess and is a skill that can be developed over time through activities such as meditation, pausing in the course of your day to notice either aspects of yourself (e.g., breathing) or your environment (e.g., sounds, physical sensations, and combining meditation with physical activity (e.g., walking). - There are great apps that help with mindfulness practice including: - The practice of mindfulness has been demonstrated to have significant benefits for athletes in mental health and performance.
