Â
Dartmouth falls to 2-1 while Michigan State improves to 4-0-1.
Â
"While the result is not what we wanted, I feel there were some solid moments of attacking and defending," said Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Ron Rainey. "For us to be the team we want to be this year, we have to combine a bit more in the attack and be a better clearing team in the box."
Â
Aspen Anderson was the goal scorer for the Big Green while
Charlotte Cyr made seven saves in goal, including a save on a penalty kick.
Â
Ruby Diodati, Camryn Evans, Ranya Senhaji and Jordyn Wickes found the back of the net for Michigan State.
Â
The Spartans found the breakthrough midway through the first half. After a handball inside the box was called against the Big Green, Diodati scored the ensuing penalty kick to give Michigan State a 1-0 lead.
Â
Michigan State were awarded another penalty kick with 13 minutes remaining in the opening half. However, it was a different outcome from the first as Dartmouth goalkeeper
Charlotte Cyr came up big to make the save and push the ball out of bounds for a corner kick, recording her first collegiate penalty kick save.
Â
The Big Green almost tied the game early into the second half.
Allie Winstanley intercepted a pass at midfield and dribbled her way down inside the Michigan State box. After being surrounded by several Spartan defenders, Winstanley's effort to the bottom right corner was saved.
Â
The Spartans added to their lead in the 63
rd minute after Evans received a pass inside the box and tucked it into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0. Michigan State added two more to their lead later in the second half.
Â
The Big Green got on the board with just under eight minutes remaining in the game.
Jaidyn Curry played the ball down the right wing to
Dasa Hase, Hase played a cross towards the top of the box which was met by Anderson for the first-time strike from outside the box to the bottom corner.
Â
Dartmouth created another chance shortly after play restarted. Hase stole the ball off the Michigan State center back and fired a shot from distance that went just wide to the left.
Â
Rainey finished by saying "credit to Michigan State. They had some good finishing moments in the game and were quite athletic. We are looking forward to recovering and playing against Eastern Michigan on Sunday."
Â
Dartmouth takes on Eastern Michigan on Sunday afternoon in their next contest at the Legacy Center Sports Complex in Brighton, Michigan. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
