HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth sailing program participated in five regattas over the weekend in week two of the 2022-23 season. The Big Green had representatives at events hosted by Brown, Boston University, Bowdoin and MIT.
"We are thrilled with the results from the weekend," head coach
Justin Assad said. "Our Hatch Brown team nearly pulled off the win at a very deep regatta and
Sarah Young's performance will establish her as a contender for selection to our Singlehanded National Championship in Virginia in November."
Sarah Young and
Griffin Lapham traveled to Rhode Island to take part in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Singlehanded Championship. Young finished second in a field of 10 in the women's event, while Lapham competed for the Montotype Trophy in the open division.
Dartmouth was well represented at the Barnett Trophy regatta, hosted by Bowdoin. The team of
James Paul,
Bella Casaretto,
Phoebe Lee and
Drew Clutterbuck finished the weekend ranked second in a field of 16. Dartmouth sailed two other teams in the event, which finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
Robert Bragg,
Yumi Yoshiyasu,
Maddie Hawkins,
Aisling Sullivan,
Will Michels and
Reese Bragg all participated in open competition this weekend at the Hatch Brown Trophy event, hosted by MIT. The Big Green performed well, placing second overall out of 18 programs.
Robert Bragg and Yoshiyasu finished fourth in A division, Hawkins and Sullivan finished their weekend ranked second in B division and Michels and
Reese Bragg took third in C division to close out a strong weekend for the Big Green.
At the Regis Trophy event, the Big Green placed fifth in a field of 18 teams.
Gray Hemans and
Caroline Oyster set sail in the A division, while
Taylor Eastman and
Eliza Crocker participated in the B division. Hemans and Oyster finished seventh in their division and Eastman and Crocker took fifth in B division.
"Our women's team at the Regis continued to improve with strong performances from both divisions, and finally we had a tremendous weekend at Bowdoin with great performances throughout several divisions. We are excited to host the Mrs. Hurst Bowl this weekend!"
The Big Green will host their first regatta of the season this weekend. Dartmouth hosts the 25th Mrs. Hurst Bowl event Sept. 24-25 at Mascoma Lake in Enfield, N.H., and will also take part in events hosted by Brown and Tufts.
