HANOVER, N.H. — The Big Green sailing program hit the waters at two events this past weekend. Dartmouth hosted the 25th Mrs. Hurst Bowl on Mascoma Lake, while the Big Green also competed at the Sherman Hoyt Trophy event in open competition.
"We were thrilled to host our annual home competition, the Mrs. Hurst Bowl, an event honoring the last Mrs. Christina Hurst," head coach
Justin Assad said. "Strong performances on Sunday rallied the team to fourth at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl and Hoyt Trophy events. Our second teams gained valuable experience at both regattas."
Dartmouth hosted its first event of the 2022-23 season in Enfield, welcoming 12 programs for this year's installment of the Mrs. Hurst Bowl women's regatta. Saturday morning saw winds ranging from 18-20 knots, while Sunday was a much calmer day on the waters of Mascoma Lake.
The Big Green's first team of
Gray Hemans,
Caroline Oyster,
Sarah Young and
Eliza Crocker finished fifth in a field of 17 teams. Dartmouth's second team of
Taylor Eastman,
Faye Benjamin,
Bella Casaretto and
Madeleine Regulla closed out the competition ranked 10th.
Hemans and Oyster claimed seventh in Division A, followed by Eastman and Benjamin, who placed 12th in the field of 16 teams. In Division B, Crocker and Young finished the weekend ranked fifth, while Casaretto and Regulla claimed 10th.
In open competition, the Big Green took part in the Sherman Hoyt Trophy regatta, hosted by Brown. Dartmouth featured two teams of athletes at the Edgewood Yacht Club in Cranston, R.I.
Boyd Bragg,
Drew Clutterbuck,
Will Michels,
Griffin Lapham and
Phoebe Lee competed for Dartmouth's first team and finished the weekend ranked fourth in a field of 18.
James Paul,
Maddie Hughes,
Reese Bragg,
Oliver Hurwitz and
Ryan Goldstein took the waters for the second team and closed out the weekend 14th.
The Big Green are back in action this weekend at the Danmark Trophy event, hosted by the Coast Guard, and the first round of the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship, hosted by Boston College.
