THIS WEEKEND
The Dartmouth men's hockey team starts a seven-game homestand this weekend at Thompson Arena. The Big Green host Cornell on Friday evening followed by Colgate on Saturday evening.
Friday's game is presented by The Richards Group while Saturday's game is presented by Cardigan Mountain School.
Saturday's contest will see Dartmouth Athletics and the men's hockey program celebrate long-time head coach and Big Green alum Bob Gaudet '81, the winningest coach in program history. There will be several promotions throughout the night.
LOOKING BACK TO LAST WEEKEND
Dartmouth picked up their first sweep of the season with wins over Brown and Yale. On Friday evening, the Big Green posted a 4-3 victory over the Bears.
Cooper Flinton led the way with two goals and one assist while
Cam MacDonald scored his first collegiate goal, along with adding an assist to register his first multi-point game. Two of the goals came on the power play, with Dartmouth scoring inside the first 10 seconds of both power plays.
The Big Green carried the momentum into Saturday's game at Yale, winning 4-0 to claim the season sweep over the Bulldogs.
Matt Hubbarde played a role in each goal, finishing with one goal and four assists.
Luke Haymes finished with a goal and an assist while
Joey Musa and
Braiden Dorfman scored the other goals. For the second night in a row, Dartmouth scored two power play goals.
Cooper Black made 24 saves in goal to earn his second shutout of the season.
ECAC HOCKEY WEEKLY AWARDS
On Monday, Hubbarde was named the ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week after finishing the weekend with one goal and four assists. It's the second straight week a Big Green skater earned an ECAC Hockey weekly award after
Alex Krause was named Rookie of the Week just a week ago.
THE STATS
Haymes leads the way in goals for the Big Green with eight. Flinton and Hubbarde are tied for second with five while Dorfman has four.
Tanner Palocsik has a team-high 11 assists followed by Hubbarde with nine and
John Fusco with seven.
The Big Green have blocked 245 shots this season, led by Musa's 23.
Jack Cameron and Fusco both have 19 while
Tucker McRae and Palocsik have 18.
Cooper Black has started all 20 games in goal for Dartmouth. He has made 521 saves and has allowed 56 goals for a save percentage of .903.
The Dartmouth penalty kill ranks first nationally with a percentage of .908. The Big Green have allowed just six power play goals this season.
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters Friday's contest with a 12-6-1, 9-3-0 record. The Big Red are currently ranked No. 11 in the latest DCU/USCHO poll. Cornell is coming off a weekend sweep over Quinnipiac (4-0) and Princeton (3-2).
Gabriel Seger and Dalton Bancroft lead the Big Red in goals with six each. Sam Malinski has a team-high 14 assists followed by Seger with 13 and Ben Berard with 12.
Ian Shane has started 16 games in goal for Cornell. He has made 338 saves and has allowed 29 goals for a save percentage of .921.
Cornell claimed three of the ECAC Hockey Weekly Awards. Malinski was named Defender of the Week, Shane was named the MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the week, and Bancroft earned Rookie of the Week.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BIG RED
The Big Green are 50-86-7 all-time against the Big Red with a 29-33-3 home record. Cornell took the win over Dartmouth earlier this season, 1-0, in Ithaca at Lynah Rink. The Big Green are looking for their first win over the Big Red since Dec. 2019 when Dartmouth claimed a 2-1 victory at Thompson Arena.
SCOUTING COLGATE
Colgate enters the weekend with a 12-10-2, 9-3-0 record. They take on No. 10 Harvard on Friday evening. The Raiders are currently on a three-game winning streak with victories over Union (2-1), Princeton (5-0) and Quinnipiac (3-2).
Alex Young leads the Raiders in goals this season with 13. Matt Verboon has 11 while Alex DiPaolo has eight. Ross Mitton has a team-high 15 assists followed by Nick Anderson with 14 and both DiPaolo and Verboon with 13.
Carter Gylander has started 23 of 24 games in goal for Colgate this season. He has made 625 saves and has allowed 51 goals for a .925 save percentage.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE RAIDERS
The Big Green are 53-53-8 all-time against the Raiders with a 27-23-4 record on home ice. Colgate took the win when the two teams faced one another earlier this season in Hamilton. Dartmouth defeated Colgate at Thompson Arena a season ago, 3-2.
