This year’s class includes 38 club sport athletes and a masters champion
HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth College and the Department of Athletics and Recreation today announced the 39 new members that will be inducted into the institution's Wearers of the Green in a ceremony on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 21 after the homecoming football game against Columbia.
Many of the inductees earned their place among the Wearers as members of several fencing squads that won national championships, including the women's foil, the men's team and the overall 6-weapon title in 2014, the women's team in 2015, '16 and '17, and another 6-weapon title in 2018. Kaleigh Mentzer '18 also won individual national titles in each of her four years with the women's fencing team.
There are also All-Americans from men's and women's water polo as well as women's rugby, and individual national champions in figure skating and one Olympian — Dong Seon Kim '12, who competed for his home country of South Korea in dressage in both the 2016 and 2020 Games.
While all of those club athletes graduated between the years 2012-20, the one masters athlete to be honored is from the Class of 1985 in Jen Gabler, who won the US Squash 50+ Women's National Championship in April 2022 by defeating a two-time World Masters champion.
Wearers of the Green, essentially the Dartmouth Athletics Hall of Fame, was created in 1984 to honor students, alumni and coaches who have met specific criteria for athletic excellence in their respective sports. Previously, a ceremony was held in Boston every five years to induct new members. But since 2014, new members have been inducted on an annual basis during homecoming weekend in Hanover, alternating years to induct varsity athletes, or club-sport athletes and masters champions.
In addition to the induction ceremony, the new inductees will march in the Dartmouth Night Parade on the evening of Friday, Oct. 20, and will be recognized on Memorial Field during halftime of the football game against Columbia the following afternoon.
