PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team fell to Brown on Friday afternoon, 7-1, in ECAC Hockey and Ivy League action at the Meeham Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island. The Bears scored six goals over the first two periods and wouldn't look back.
Shae Messner scored her second goal of the season with 6:56 left in the second period, but Brown responded with two unanswered to close the game.
Dartmouth moves to 2-2-1 overall with a 1-2-1 ECAC Hockey record. Brown improves to 2-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league play.
"Tough one for us tonight," said assistant coach
Jason Carter. "We showed that in this league, you have to show up for all 60 minutes and we unfortunately didn't do that. Now, we need to have a short memory, turn the tables for tomorrow and really be focused on Yale tomorrow afternoon."
After more than seven minutes of scoreless play, Brown opened the scoring with three goals in the span of 4:36 and four in 8:46 to take a commanding lead. All four goals were even strength and featured four different goal scorers.
The Bears extended their lead to 5-0 midway through the second period behind India McDadi's second goal of the day. Messner responded 2:12 later to get the Big Green on the board. However, Brown's Cassidy Piersiak scored her second at 15:59 of the second, then Brown tacked on a power play goal 5:18 into the fourth to account for the 7-1 final.
Final shots were 27-15 in favor of Brown.
Dartmouth is back in action Saturday afternoon for an ECAC Hockey and Ivy League contest at Yale. The puck is scheduled to drop at 3 p.m. in New Haven and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
