PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Dartmouth women' rugby team is back in the win column after pickup up a rain-soaked 22-10 road win over Brown on Sunday in its penultimate match of the regular season.
The Big Green improved 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the NIRA with only a match at Princeton remaining in its regular season slate before playoffs begin the following weekend. The Bears dropped to 4-3 and 3-3 in the NIRA.
Dartmouth rolled to a 10-0 lead in the first half with tries from
Nicole Ihensekhien and
Taylor Sadek before Brown cut the lead in half with its first score of the game just before the break. A try from
Asialeata Meni, her team-high seventh of the season, and
Abbey Savin's subsequent conversion gave Dartmouth some breathing room in the early minutes of the second half, bringing the score to 17-5.
Brown threatened a comeback with Akilah Cathey's second try of the match at the 53:20 mark, but
Paola Arredondo Almeida gave Dartmouth all the insurance it needed just three minutes later with her fourth try of the season.
Following next Saturday's match at Princeton, the Big Green will await their opponent in the NIRA semifinal, which the higher seed will host on Saturday, Nov. 11. The NIRA final will be hosted by Harvard and is set for Saturday, Nov. 18.
