HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth women's hockey team roared to a 7-1 win over Post on Wednesday afternoon, racking up 59 shots on goal and featuring six different goal scorers.
Izee Powell netted a pair of power play goals for the first multi-goal game of her career and
Kenzie Bachelor dished out five assists.
The Big Green improved to 3-11-1 on the season, while Post dropped to 3-15-0.
Dartmouth, which has scored 12 goals in its last two games, had its best offensive performance since scoring eight on Post almost exactly two years ago (Dec. 11, 2021).
"Having a shooter's mentality in the offensive zone is always important," head coach
Liz Keady Norton said of the team's offensive success. "We worked the puck low-to-high and generated a tremendous amount of shots. We were hungry for rebounds on those second-effort plays will make a difference for us."
Bachelor was the key facilitator in the offensive zone, assisting on all but two of the Big Green's goals to become to first Dartmouth player since Jenna Cunningham (Dec. 16, 2007 against Mercyhurst) with five or more points in a game. No Big Green player had recorded four or more assists in a single game over the last 10 seasons until Bachelor came away with five on Wednesday.
In addition to Powell, Big Green goals were scored by
Laura Fuoco,
Hamilton Doster,
Cally Dixon,
Shae Messner and
Lauren Messier. Powell's two tally's were the lone goals of the third period. Fuoco joined Bachelor with multiple assists, dishing out three.
Jenna Donohue's seven shots on goal led the Big Green, who cleared 50 in the category for the second time in as many seasons. Doster, Messner, Fuoco and Dixon each have goals in back-to-back games.
Eleanor Rogers made 12 saves in Dartmouth's net, while Hali Lawrence logged a full 60 minutes for the Eagles and stopped 52 shots, including 19 in the third period.
After two weekend losses marred by slow starts and early goals allowed, Dartmouth needed less than four minutes to find the fast start necessary to set the tone for a victory that would snap a 10-game losing streak. Fuoco put the Big Green on the board with more than 16 minutes still remaining in the first period. With just under eight left in the frame, Doster doubled the lead.
Leading 2-0 entering the second, the Big Green would roar to a 4-0 lead before surrendering their first goal. Dixon and Messner had the goals to double the lead and Post's Tymmarie Grom scored the Eagles' lone goal with six minutes remaining in the second. Messier tallied the final goal of the action-packed second period to send the Big Green into the third with a 5-1 advantage.
Dartmouth received a power play opportunity early in the third and that was when Powell fired a one-timer near the blue line, getting the better of Lawrence for the Big Green's first power play goal of the afternoon. Almost 10 minutes later, it was a carbon copy of Powell's first goal – another one-timer while on the power play.
Dartmouth is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 9, taking on Maine at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. The neutral site matchup is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
