Cooper helped the Big Green hand previously 3-0 Merrimack its first loss of the season
HANOVER, N.H. — Following a strong 10-save performance in Saturday's season-opening win at Merrimack, Dartmouth men's lacrosse freshman Sam Cooper was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Monday. Cooper stopped four-of-six shots sent his way in the fourth quarter to help the Big Green turn an 8-7 deficit after three quarters into an 11-10 victory.
Cooper becomes Dartmouth's first Ivy League Rookie of the Week since Colin McGill won the award last Mar. 21.
After allowing two goals in the game's first 56 seconds, Cooper and the Dartmouth defense allowed just eight the rest of the way. The 10 goals allowed tied for the fewest Merrimack has scored this season. Cooper also collected two groundballs.
The Big Green will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when they travel to Holy Cross to face the Crusaders. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
