HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth field hockey team continues to pile up the academic honors as the Big Green received a 2022 Division I National Academic Team Award this week. The award recognizes programs that earned a team grade point average of 3.5 or higher during the fall semester of the academic year. Dartmouth posted a 3.75 GPA this fall, good for the fourth-highest team GPA in the nation. This marked the fourth straight year the Big Green came in the top five.
"Balancing academics and athletics isn't easy anywhere, but at an Ivy League institution, it definitely provides an extra challenge," said Dartmouth head coach
Mark Egner. "Seeing our team succeed at this level consistently shows that they have the opportunity and dedication to hold themselves to the highest standards in the classroom."
Dartmouth is one of 42 Division I programs to have earned the honor. It comes after 18 Big Green student-athletes were named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad (for a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year). Four were also named NFHCA Scholars of Distinction (for a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher).
"We're incredibly proud of everyone on the team," said Egner. "They've all committed and dedicated themselves to achieving this level of consistency in their academic standards, and we're excited about the future of the program as we see so many of these grades spread across four years."
