DURHAM, N.C. — Jake Dalton broke the program record for the hammer throw for the second time in three weeks as the Dartmouth men's track and field team competed in the opening day of the Duke Invitational on Thursday.
Initially breaking the record on March 25 at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational with a throw of 64.78m, Dalton exceeded that mark on four of his six throws today. Dalton threw 64.88m on his second attempt of the afternoon. On the fourth attempt, Dalton threw 65.04m before ending the day with throws of 65.12m and 65.39m. With a best throw of 65.39m, Dalton placed second in the event, and remains second in the Ivy League while moving up to 13
th on the East Region Qualifying list.
Ben Pable also finished in the top 10 for the hammer throw, throwing for a personal best mark of 60.64m, surpassing his previous PR by more than 2m. Pable now has the fifth-best mark in the Ivy League this season.
Colton McMaster competed in both events on the day. He took 22
nd in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.47m. He later threw discus, throwing for a distance of 44.10m, managing to get three throws in before the lengthy weather delay.
