HANOVER, N.H. — The NFHCA announced its Division I Watchlist on Thursday, which features fifth year
Meg Barnes, senior
Bronwyn Bird and sophomore
Olivia Galiotos. The list showcases those field hockey student-athletes with the strongest potential for consideration to the current year's NFHCA All-America teams.
Overall, 131 student-athletes from 40 Division I institutions were recognized. To be nominated, student-athletes must have previously been recognized for their outstanding field hockey abilities (such as All-Conference, All-Region or All-America).
Barnes is a multi-year team captain who was named honorable mention All-Ivy as a junior. She has been a staple in the midfield, following up her one goal and two assists in 2021 with two goals and two assists in 2022. Barnes was named the Big Green's Teammate of the Year as a senior.
Bird is a multi-time All-Ivy honoree, earning second-team honors as both a junior and senior. She was also named second team All-Northeast Region by the NFHCA in 2022, as she led Dartmouth in points (12) and assists (6) while adding three goals. She was named the team's Co-Offensive Player of the Year at the program's end-of-year banquet. The year prior, Bird tied for the team lead in goals with four, while adding an assist for nine points.
Galiotos jumped onto the scene as a freshman, garnering honorable mention All-Ivy honors. An anchor of the defense, she was a center back who started all 17 games and played nearly every minute in 2022. The Big Green defense allowed just over two goals per game in Ivy League play. This past summer, Galiotos was selected for the Senior Nexus Championship, formally known as the Young Women's National Championship.
Dartmouth hits the field for the first time on Sunday when the Big Green host Stonehill in the season opener. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. on ESPN+.
