HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's soccer team concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 1-1 draw against UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon at Burnham Field. The Big Green, now 5-0-3 for the season, went unbeaten in non-conference play for the first time in program history.
Audrey Marin tallied a second half goal for Dartmouth while UMass Lowell (0-3-4) received a goal from Julia Edholm.
"I like the way we fought," Stacy and Nick Branca Family Head Coach of Women's Soccer
Taylor Schram said. "The pattern that we used to get the first goal and open up the game was exactly what we were trying to train this week."
The Big Green opened the scoring in the 68
th minute of play when Marin scored for the second-straight game. Dartmouth moved the ball around in the attacking to create its opportunity, with
Ellie Davidson playing a pass down the right side to
Jaidyn Curry. Curry took one touch before crossing the ball into the box, looking for a Big Green attacker to make contact just a few yards from goal. Marin made the run towards the back post and made clean contact with her head, heading over the UMass Lowell goalkeeper and just under the crossbar to put the Big Green ahead, 1-0.
The River Hawks scored a header of their own with just under 10 minutes remaining to tie the game. Maddie Guthrie played the corner kick into the box and Julia Edholm got her head on it with enough power to put it into the bottom right corner for the equalizer.
UMass Lowell had nearly taken the lead inside the first 10 minutes of the game when Luka Marceau fired a shot towards goal, but it went just over the bar.
Both teams had several chances on goal, with the River Hawks holding the edge, 4-2. UMass Lowell had 10 corner kicks to Dartmouth's four.
Schram finished with, "We're proud of the fact that we are undefeated heading into Ivy League play and it's a good place to be in."
Dartmouth hits the road to Connecticut on Saturday for the Ivy League opener against Yale. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Reese Stadium and the game will be available to stream nationally on ESPN+ and internationally on Stretch Internet.
