Egner Named Head Coach for U.S. U-18 Women’s National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Dartmouth head field hockey coach Mark Egner received an impressive honor on Tuesday, as he was named the head coach of the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team. The team's selection camp will take place Dec. 1 to 3 in Charlotte, N.C. The named squads will meet in February and March of 2024 as they prepare for international tours.

Egner was previously assistant coach for the U.S. squad, and is now shifting into the head coach's role.

"I'm excited to get this opportunity to support the next generation of U.S. talent," he said. "This age group demonstrates a lot of potential and with eyes on Los Angeles 2028, preparing this age group is a great opportunity to play a role in developing future Olympians."

Egner has led strong progress for the Big Green program. Last season, Dartmouth posted a three-game winning streak, which marked its longest streak since 2017. Included was a 4-3 win over Northeastern for the program's first win against the Huskies since 1987. So far this year, the Big Green have scored 17 goals, their most through the first six games since 2018 (when they had 18). In 2023, Dartmouth has beaten Stonehill (6-1), Merrimack (4-3 in overtime) and Colgate (5-4 in overtime).

Prior to Dartmouth, Egner spent the previous five seasons on the sidelines at William & Mary, with the last two as associate head coach. Before William & Mary, he spent two seasons at Longwood.

Egner also owns significant coaching experience in his native Ireland, including as assistant coach and video coordinator with the Irish Hockey Association's U-18 and Senior National teams. He previously served as head coach at the Fermoy Hockey Club, and head and assistant coach of the U-18 women's program for the Munster Hockey Association.

Heavily involved in USA Field Hockey, Egner has served as a coach educator at a number of Level 1 and 2 Instructional Coaching Clinics and workshops. He is USA Field Hockey Level 2 Coach Certified and has taken multiple International Hockey Federation and Pan American Hockey Federation Coaching Courses and certifications.
