HANOVER, N.H. — The No. 10 Dartmouth men's squash team followed up a 6-3 win at No. 18 Amherst Saturday with another 6-3 win on Sunday, this time coming against No. 12 Tufts. Four of the Big Green's victories came via 3-0 sweeps, including at each of the top three positions.
With its home-opening win, Dartmouth improves to 4-2 on the season. Tufts falls to 7-3.
"This was one of the most important weekends for us," said Vikram Malhotra, Douglas A. Donahue Jr. 1973 Head Coach of Men's and Women's Squash. "Given that we have our sights set on playing Division A Nationals for both teams, I think the teams really took that responsibility onto themselves and gave it 100 percent this weekend. Today more than anything else, the fight, the grit and the amount of effort each and every single out of our players put into today's match, was extremely fulfilling as a coach."
The Big Green were dominant at each of the top three positions, with juniors
Mac Aube and
Christian Shah, and first-year
Ekam Singh each winning 3-0. None of the three let their opponents get more than eight points in a single game.
Felix Feldman also swept Tufts' Rohan Valia at No. 7, but it wasn't easy. Feldman pulled out tight wins of 12-10 then 16-14 in the first two games, before cruising in the third game, 11-2.
Dartmouth's other wins came from junior
Quintin Campbell and first-year
Callan Venkatesan, 3-1, each picking up their second win in as many days.
"It's really nice to see all [our players'] work, all their effort and all their sacrifice come together in such a beautiful manner today and this weekend," said Malhotra.
The Big Green return home on Friday to host No. 4 Trinity on Friday at 3 p.m. before an Ivy League matchup at No. 3 Yale on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
