HANOVER, N.H. – With the score at 1-1 going into the third period, the Dartmouth women's hockey team was unable to overcome Franklin Pierce's two-goal period as the Big Green fell to the Ravens, 3-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Thompson Arena.
Lauren Messier and
Kenzie Bachelor each lit the lamp for Dartmouth on the power play.
The Big Green fall to 4-13-1 on the season while Franklin Pierce improves to 8-10-0.
"It got away from us a little tonight," said assistant coach
Max Gavin. "Credit to Franklin Pierce, they did a great job, played hard and earned a win tonight."
After a scoreless first period, Dartmouth took a 1-0 lead midway through the second when Messier scored on the power play.
Meredith Jensen passed it to
Annie King along the blue line, who then found Messier with open space at the right faceoff circle. Messier had the clear look at goal and was able to find the back of the net with her fifth tally of the season.
The Ravens scored the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead. The first goal came late in the second when Alexandria Cistolo scored her first of the year. Emilie Prive scored on the power play early in the third to put Franklin Pierce ahead before Claire Casey tallied a goal with just under seven minutes remaining to extend the lead to two.
The Big Green pulled
Eleanor Rogers from goal to go with an extra attacker as the clock ran down as they looked to overcome the two-goal deficit. With the 3:10 to go, Bachelor scored on the power play after redirecting a shot from
Izee Powell to make it a one-goal game.
Franklin Pierce goaltender Jill Hertl made 52 saves between the pipes, including six down the stretch in the final three minutes to keep the Ravens in front.
The Big Green held the edge in shots on goal, 54-17, and faceoffs, 31-19.
