HANOVER, N.H. – The Big Green entered Saturday's matchup with the Lions, looking to get on the scoreboard and into the win column. Dartmouth scored two goals on the day but could not find a game winner, battling Columbia to a draw.
With the tie, the Big Green move to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
The Big Green and Lions traded chances and possession early and neither team looked to have a clear advantage.
In the 32
nd minute, the Big Green were dealt a red card, being forced to play the remainder of the game a man down. While the Big Green were on the ball defensively, they continued to pressure. Only a few minutes later,
Eidur Baldvinsson capitalized on a Lions' errant pass to put his team up 1-0 despite being a man down.
While Dartmouth started the second half on top, they set their sights on defending, eliminating any threat the Lions put forth.
The Big Green took their chances when they had them, but none were as good as the chance in the 59
th minute.
Trenton Blake drew a penalty in the box after receiving a pass from Baldvinsson. The Big Green's leading goal scorer took advantage as Blake beat the Lions keeper to double Dartmouth's lead.
The Lions would not give up though, fighting back to score goals in the 75
th and 82
nd minute to tie the game and earn a draw on the road.
The Big Green will have a quick turnaround, returning to the pitch Tuesday to play their final nonconference match of the season at Northeastern. They will return to Burnham Field Saturday, hosting the reigning Ivy League Champion Yale Bulldogs for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
