Dartmouth Takes Down Colgate 7-0
HANOVER, N.H.—The Dartmouth field hockey team hosted Colgate on Sunday afternoon as Dartmouth held its annual senior day. The Big Green defeated the Raiders 7-0 on the back of Emilia Callahan's four goals.
The Big Green opened the scoring at the 8:40 mark of the opening quarter. Gabriela Braceras drove deep into the Colgate circle and fed a pass to the middle of the circle. Callahan notched her first goal of the game as she deflected the ball into the back of the cage.
After the opening quarter the Big Green led 1-0 and were outshooting the Raiders 6-3 with three Dartmouth shots finding the goal.
With just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Callahan got her second goal of the game. Florentina Terra fired the ball into the circle from the middle of the field and Callahan got a stick on it. Following the deflection, the Colgate goalie got a piece of it but could not keep it out of the cage.
At halftime, the Big Green held a 2-0 lead and were outshooting the Raiders 14-3 while having eight shots on goal. The Big Green also drew four corners in the first half.
Dartmouth scored three goals in the third quarter as Olivia Galiotos netted the first goal of the quarter. Helen Young took the insertion pass off a corner and fired it toward the net. Galiotos got her stick on it and deflected it through traffic into the net for her first goal of the season.
Callahan completed the hat trick less than a minute later. Terra fired the ball into the middle of the circle from just outside the circle. Callahan deflected the ball right around the stroke mark and the ball found the bottom corner of the goal.
With less than five minutes remaining in the quarter, fellow senior Piper Edwards gained control of the ball and passed the ball to Callahan in the circle. Callahan made a move and fired a shot around the goalie for her fourth goal of the game.
1:03 into the fourth quarter, the Big Green tallied their sixth goal. Riley Dumigan inserted the ball off a penalty corner and Terra set the ball for Ruby Walsh. Walsh took a hard shot that was deflected by a Colgate defender. The ball went high into the air and into the back of the net.
Lucia Campaño closed out the scoring for Dartmouth with just over four minutes remaining in regulation. Campaño stick handled the ball through the top of the circle and fired a shot towards the cage that found the bottom left corner of the net.
Dartmouth goalkeeper Ava Carlson earned her second career shutout as she needed to make just two saves.
Callahan is the first Big Green player to score four goals in a game since Oct. 17, 2012. Callahan has suited up against Colgate twice in her career, in those two games she has a combined seven goals.
Terra set a career high in assists as she had three assists on Sunday.
The 2024 senior class tallied three goals and three assists on senior day.
The Big Green are back in action on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. as Yale visits Hanover for the final Dartmouth home game of 2024.
