NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The Dartmouth men's tennis team saw two individuals advance and two doubles teams win on the first day of the Ivy League Tournament.
Denny Bao and Carlos Guerrero Alvarez started the day with a doubles win. They defeated a team from Penn 8-5 and will face a duo from Yale on Saturday.
Miles Groom and Waleed Qadir advanced to the second round of the doubles tournament as well with an 8-5 win. After defeating a team from Harvard on Friday they take on a Penn team on Saturday morning.
Alex Knox-Jones and Leo Pade played a back-and-forth match in doubles. After a back and forth match the duo fell 8-6 to a team from Harvard.
In singles action, Yujiro Onuma advanced to the second round with a two-set win over a player from Harvard. He won the opening set 6-3 and closed out the match with a 6-4 win in the second set. He takes on a player from Yale on Saturday afternoon.
Guerrero Alvarez was the other Big Green player to move in the singles tournament. He took on Justin Chung of Penn in the opening round. He won the first set 6-4 and took the match with a 6-2 win in the second set.
Pade fell in the opening match of the singles tournament to a player from Cornell 6-4, 6-1.
Bao faced a player from Princeton in the opening round. He fell in the opening set 6-4 but rebounded in the second set with a 7-6 win. In the third set he fell 6-2.
Groom fell in his singles match on Friday as he dropped the first set 6-1 and could not recover in the second set falling 6-3.
Dartmouth is back on the court on Saturday as the Big Green look to advance in both singles and doubles.
