PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Dartmouth women's tennis team opened the Ivy League Individual Tournament on Friday with four members of the Big Green in the singles bracket along with two doubles teams.
The day started with doubles as Elizabeth Fahrmeier and Lexi Dewire squared off against a team from Columbia. Fahrmeier and Dewire edged out the team from Columbia winning 8-7. They take on a Penn team on Saturday.
Sam Grosjean and Elise Wong advanced to the second round with an 8-5 win over a duo from Penn. The Dartmouth duo take on a team from Yale in the second round on Saturday.
Grosjean was the lone member of the Big Green to advance in the singles tournament. She won the opening set 7-5 and completed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the second set. The first year takes on Ann Wright Guerry of Yale on Saturday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.
Valentina Cruz went three sets in her first match of the tournament. She fell 6-2 in the opening set and then won the second set 6-2 to force a third set. She was edged out 7-6 in the third set.
Wong dropped her singles match in straight sets to a player from Columbia. She fell in the first set 6-3 and could not force a third set as she fell 6-1 in the second set.
Fahrmeier fell in two sets in her singles match. She fell 6-3 in the first set and then 6-2 in the second set to Michelle Ryndin of Cornell.
The Big Green are back on the court on Saturday as the doubles teams look to advance to the quarterfinals. Grosjean looks to punch her ticket to the quarterfinals.
