Women’s Hockey Drops Back and Forth Battle with Princeton

HANOVER, N.H. – Following a tough overtime loss to Quinnipiac Friday, Dartmouth returned to the ice, hosting the Princeton Tigers Saturday.
The Big Green scored two goals in the third period, but couldn't complete the comeback, ultimately falling to the Tigers, 4-3.
Dartmouth and Princeton traded goals in the first period, as the Tigers at on the board first at 11:08. With less than 30 seconds to play in the period, Lauren Messier picked up a loose puck just inside the offensive zone, carried it to the dot, and shot it past the Tigers' goaltender to tie the game at one.
The two teams played a pretty even second period, but Princeton found themselves on the power play and took advantage, taking a 2-1 lead with just over five minutes to play and into the second intermission.
Each team scored two goals in the final frame. Messier continued to produce offensively, finding Kenzie Bachelor at the point who took a shot through a screen to tie the game at two.
The Big Green continued to fight, bringing themselves within one with over six minutes to play. Messier once again found herself on the scoresheet, sending a pass through the crease and finding Laura Fuoco in front to make it a 4-3 game.
With a hand in all three Big Green goals today, Messier credited her performance to doing the right things.
"The biggest thing is when goals happen, it's a bunch of good plays strung together from earlier. So when you have six, seven shifts before where we're making good changes, we're getting pucks to the net, good things are bound to happen," Messier said.
Head Coach Maura Crowell emphasized her team's fight against the Tigers and said she is proud of the way the Big Green are playing.
"I loved our fight. Our battle back after [Princeton] went up 4-2 for us to come back 4-3 and push it at the end again with a good six-on-five. We had a lot of looks," Crowell said. "I'm really proud of the way we're playing. I think we're very difficult to play against and we're just getting better and better. The more situations like we were in today, the better off we're going to be down the line. So, another tough loss, of course, but if you watch the product that's on the ice, there's so much good happening."
"Let's take this show on the road. We're playing great. We're putting together great weeks of practice. That's what it's about," Crowell said. "Your everyday work leads into the weekend. Makes us prepared, makes us confident. So, let's have another great week and get after it."
Messier echoed her head coach, adding "We're making good progress, taking good steps. So I think the biggest thing is just not losing that and bringing our focus and energy to practice all week."

The Big Green continued to fight, bringing themselves within one with over six minutes to play. Messier once again found herself on the scoresheet, sending a pass through the crease and finding Laura Fuoco in front to make it a 4-3 game.
Dartmouth found themselves shorthanded with just under three minutes to play, but a Princeton penalty evened the ice. The Big Green pulled their goaltender, playing five-on-four and six-on-four once the penalty expired, generating multiple high-quality chances. Izee Powell hit the crossbar from the point and Fuoco found herself open in nearly the same spot she scored from earlier, but nothing else would get by Princeton, as the Tigers earned the 4-3 victory.We have one more to show, Laura Fuoco was at the right place at the right time. pic.twitter.com/g85GHZs4DV

After two weekends at Thompson Arena, Dartmouth will hit the road, travelling to Colgate and Cornell before a weekend off. The Big Green will matchup against the Colgate Raiders on Friday for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
