HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth men's hockey team scored once in each period and Cooper Black posted a 28-save shutout as the Big Green claimed a 3-0 victory over Clarkson in ECAC Hockey action on Friday evening at Thompson Arena. Cam MacDonald, Trym Løkkeberg and Luke Haymes each scored while Haymes also had an assist to finish the night with two points.
Dartmouth improves to 7-9-8, 5-6-6 while Clarkson falls 14-14-1, 8-8-1.
Cooper Black made 12 saves in the third period on his way to earning his second shutout of the season.
"Excellent," said Koenig Family Head Coach of Dartmouth Men's Hockey Reid Cashman about Black's performance tonight. "He was really good in that last penalty kill. I thought our kill was pretty good, there were some funky bounces and he had to make some really big saves. So he was excellent."
The Big Green opened the scoring just a few minutes into the contest when MacDonald scored a power play goal for the second straight game. Haymes passed the puck out to Nikita Nikora, who found MacDonald waiting in perfect position near the goal to smash it home for his third goal of the year.
Dartmouth extended the lead early in the second period when Løkkeberg found the back of the net for the first time this season. Tucker McRae's shot from the blue line was saved, but Josh Waters and Løkkeberg crashed the net for the rebound and Løkkeberg made no mistake from close range to double the lead.
Haymes sealed the victory with an empty net goal with just under two minutes remaining in the third period for his 13th goal of the year.
"I think we had a good response," said MacDonald. "Even though we were up 1-0, Clarkson was taking it to us and after a good talk from Coach in-between periods, it got us reset and we got back to playing our game and doing the fundamentals well."
Dartmouth is back in action tomorrow evening to take on St. Lawrence at Thompson Arena. Tomorrow's game is Youth Hockey Day, presented by Cardigan Mountain School. The contest will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet and tickets are available for purchase through the Dartmouth Athletics ticket office.
