FINAL ROAD TRIP OF THE REGULAR SEASON
The Dartmouth men's hockey team hits the road for the final time in the regular season, traveling to the Albany area to take on Rensselaer and Union.
FIVE-POINT WEEKEND
The Big Green had a big weekend at Thompson Arena, earning five points to move up the standings. Dartmouth defeated Clarkson on Friday evening, 3-0, before claiming a shootout victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday following a 4-4 tie.
Luke Haymes registered a multi-point effort against the Golden Knights with one goal and one assist.
Cam MacDonald opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period and
Trym Løkkeberg tallied his first goal of the year in the contest.
Cooper Black made 28 saves to earn the shutout.
John Fusco,
CJ Foley and Haymes all had multi-point performances against the Saints on Saturday.
Sean Chisholm,
Cooper Flinton and
Eric Charpentier each lit the lamp, with Charpentier's being the game-tying goal with under five minutes remaining.
Braiden Dorfman and Flinton made their attempts in the shootout and Black made saves on five of the six attempts he faced.
WEEKLY AWARDS
John Fusco was named the ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week on Monday after finishing with one goal and one assist in the contest against St. Lawrence.
SCOUTING RENSSELAER
Rensselaer comes into Friday's matchup with a 9-18-3 overall record and a 6-10-2 record in league play. The Engineers are coming off a split weekend, defeating Princeton, 4-3, before falling to Quinnipiac, 7-2.
Sutter Muzzatti leads the team in assists (14) and points (21). Tyler Hotson has a team-high 10 goals while Austin Heidemann boasts nine. Joining Muzzatti for double digit assist totals are Ryan Brushett and Heidemann with 11 each.
Jack Watson has started 16 games for Rensselaer, making 488 saves with a .897 save percentage and a 3.61 goals against average.
The Big Green are 44-54-6 all-time against the Engineers. Dartmouth claimed all three points when the two teams played each other just a few weeks ago, picking up a 6-2 victory at Thompson Arena.
SCOUTING UNION
Union enters the weekend with a 13-14-3, 7-8-3 record and will play Harvard on Friday evening. Last weekend, the Garnet Chargers fell to Quinnipiac on Friday, 6-2, followed by a 2-2 tie against Princeton on Saturday. The Tigers won the shootout to take the extra point.
John Prokop leads ECAC Hockey in assists with 24 this season and is fourth in points per game with 1.07. Brandon Buhr and Carter Korpi are tied for the team lead in goals with 10.
Kyle Chauvette has started 29 games in goal for the Garnet Chargers and is third in the league in saves per game with 25.17.
The Union penalty kill ranks among the best in Division I men's hockey this season with the third-best percentage of .875.
THE RACE TO HOST
With just two weekends remaining in the regular season, the playoff race has never been closer. The Big Green currently sit in sixth with 25 points, just one point behind Union and three points behind Clarkson.
St. Lawrence and Yale are one point off of Dartmouth while Harvard is in ninth with 23 points.
