Luke Haymes finished with three points
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Luke Haymes scored two goals and had one assist to help lead the Dartmouth men's hockey team to a 5-4 victory over Union in ECAC Hockey action on Saturday at the Messa Rink at Achilles Center. Matt Fusco and Cooper Flinton both tallied two assists while Sean Chisholm, Braiden Dorfman and CJ Foley each found the back of the net.
With the win, the Big Green have now clinched a top 8 spot, guaranteeing a home playoff game at Thompson Arena in the upcoming ECAC Hockey Championship tournament. It'll be the first postseason hockey at Thompson since the 2019-20 season.
Dartmouth improves to 9-9-9, 7-6-7 while Union drops to 14-15-3, 8-9-3.
Both teams found the back of the net twice during the third frame, but the Garnet Chargers' final goal came with just 3.5 seconds remaining. Union had tied the game just 21 seconds into the third to make it 3-3, but a short-handed goal from Foley minutes later gave Dartmouth the lead back.
Haymes added his second goal of the night less than two minutes later to push the Big Green lead back to two.
Both teams scored twice in the second period to make it a 3-2 game going into the third. Dorfman and Chisholm scored the goals in the period, with Chisholm's coming on the power play during a 4v3 advantage for the Big Green. The Garnet Chargers had equalized a few minutes into the period, but Dartmouth wasted little time to take back the lead, scoring just 38 seconds later when Dorfman netted his fifth of the year.
Chisholm's power play goal at the 16:05 mark of the period pushed the Big Green lead to two but Union answered shortly after, bringing the deficit back down to one 22 seconds later when John Prokop was able to sneak one past Cooper Black.
Haymes opened the scoring early into the contest with his 15th goal of the season. The Big Green drove forward and got the puck in front of goal. Flinton caused chaos around the front of net and the puck came right to Haymes, who was able to control it and place a shot through the defense into the back of the net.
Dartmouth returns to Thompson Arena next weekend for the final two games of the regular season. The Big Green play host to Brown and Yale for a pair of ECAC Hockey and Ivy League matchups. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contests will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet. Tickets are available for purchase through the Dartmouth Athletics ticket office.
