CRAFTSBURY, VT. — The Dartmouth ski team enjoyed a strong effort on Saturday to surge from fifth to second place heading into Sunday's giant slalom, the final event of the Harvard Carnival. Leading the way on Saturday was sophomore
Dan Gillis, who won the men's slalom, with sophomore
Zoe Zimmermann finishing third in the women's slalom.
Gillis' effort helped the Big Green capture the most points in the men's slalom with 120, three points ahead of New Hampshire in second. Gillis' combined time of 1:25.57 defeated second-place Simen Strand of Saint Michael's by 0.45 seconds. It was Gillis' first win on the EISA circuit after getting second in this season's first carnival, the Colby Carnival.
Along with Gillis, junior
Oliver Morgan just missed the podium in the men's slalom, coming in fourth with a total time of 1:26.27. Morgan's time of 24.08 on the first run tied for the best mark and was 0.01 seconds ahead of Gillis.
In the women's slalom, Zimmermann captured bronze with a combined time of 1:30.77. Sophomore
Sammi Trudeau came in sixth (1:31.44) while senior
Olivia Holm tied for ninth (1:31.85) to round out three Big Green in the top 10. As a team, Dartmouth placed second in the women's slalom with 115 points, only behind Vermont's 138.
The Big Green finished fourth as a team in both the men's and women's 7.5K freestyle races. On the men's side, sophomore
Cooper Camp came in ninth with a time of 16:51.5, with fifth-year
Cameron Wolfe finishing just outside the top 10 in 11th (16:52.6). Junior
Tatum Witter paced the Dartmouth women's Nordic team, finishing 12th with a time of 18:58.0.
The Harvard Carnival will wrap up on Sunday with the giant slalom, which was postponed from Friday due to fog. The women's run begins at 9 a.m. with the men's run beginning at 10:30.
