HANOVER, N.H. – Juniors
Quintin Campbell,
Christian Shah, and first-year
Callan Venkatesan led the way for the Big Green Sunday, picking up victories at the second, fifth, and eighth positions but it was not enough to propel the Big Green over the Big Red, as Cornell won the remaining six matches to defeat the Big Green 6-3 at the Berry Squash Courts.
With the loss, the Big Green fall to 5-8 on the season and 0-6 in Ivy League play, while the Big Red move to 8-5 and 1-4 in the Ivy League.
At the second position, Shah got out to a strong start, winning the first two games to take the 2-0 lead (11-6, 12-10). Cornell's Spencer Yager continued to stay with it though, winning the next two straight to force a fifth game. The two played for over an hour before Shah was able to secure the victory in the fifth game, defeating Yager 3-2 and putting his team on the board.
After falling behind and losing the first game, Campbell swung momentum in his favor at the fifth position. He and Cornell's Rohan Iyer went back and forth in the second game before Campbell was able to pull away for the 11-7 victory. He dominated the next two games, only allowed six points to win the match 3-1 (11-2, 11-4).
Venkatesan only allowed five points in the first game to take a quick 1-0 lead over Cornell's Tanay Punjabi. Punjabi won the second game, but Venkatesan did not look back, winning the third game in extra points (13-11) and the fourth game 11-9 to add the third Big Green victory.
