PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team stands in fifth place following Friday's first round of the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic, hosted by Lipscomb University. The Big Green are shooting 18-over-306, with both senior
Katherine Sung and first-year
Caroline Chung in the top 10.
Â
"You cannot win it on the first round," said
Alex Kirk, Carolyn A. Pelzel '54a Head Coach of Women's Golf. "We played well overall. I am happy with the start in windy conditions. We completed the round as thunderstorms opened up. Â We are leading in Par 3 scoring, but can make up some ground on the Par 5s."
Â
Through the first 18 holes, Abilene Christian is first at 10-over-298, followed by Yale (12-over-300), Austin Peay (16-over-304) and Harvard (17-over-306), followed by Dartmouth.
Â
Sung shot 2-over-74 on Friday, which was tied for fourth overall. Chung was also in the top 10, tied for 10th at 4-over-76.
Â
Also for the Big Green, senior
Penelope Tir shot 5-over-77, sophomore
Sophie Thai came in at 7-over-79 and junior
Claire Xu shot 11-over-83.
Â
Dartmouth will return to action for the second of three rounds on Saturday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Â
"We're looking forward to the rest of the weekend," said Kirk. "It's a marathon, not sprint. Plenty of golf left."
