CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On Friday, the Big Green sailing team finished the Round of 16 of the Open Team Race National Championship, sitting in fifth ahead of the round of eight to be sailed on Saturday.
Â
The Big Green, currently with an 11-6 record jumped up two spots on Friday, after finishing the first day of the championship in a three-way tie for seventh place. While Dartmouth posts and identical record to the eighth-place team Stanford, a sweep of the top three finishing positions against the Cardinals in the Round of 16 grant the Big Green the higher seed.
Â
Following a 2-2 record on the opening day of the championship, the Big Green posted a 9-2 record, including the win over Stanford to wrap the Round of 16. Dartmouth picked up first place finishing positions in all its winning races yesterday except one, taking the middle finishing positions against Boston College for the win.
Â
The Big Green's nine wins on day two of the championship came against Harvard, Stanford, Georgetown, Coast Guard, Navy, MIT, St. Mary's, Boston College, and Tulane. Their two losses came against Roger Williams and Tufts, despite third, fourth, and fifth finishing positions in each race. The Roger Williams Hawks current sit in second place in the regatta.
Â
The ICSA Open Team Race National Championship Round of 8 started yesterday and the Big Breen were able to complete two regattas. Despite going winless in the Round of 8 yesterday, they will sail the final six races of the round Saturday. The Round of 4, if the Big Green qualify, will start after the Round of 8 wraps up. Â
