CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After two days of sailing on the Charles River, the Big Green sailing team finished fourth overall in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Team Race National Championship.
The Big Green bounced back from an eleventh-place finish at last year's national championship, posting an 11-8 overall record and going as high as second place at one point in the championship.
After going 8-3 in Round 1 and qualifying for the Top 6, the Big Green posted a 3-2 record to qualify for the Top 4. In the round of six, the Big Green got out to a hot start, going 2-0 and jumping to second place, only behind Stanford. Dartmouth collected first place finishing positions against Boston College and Penn as well as swept the middle finishing positions, second, third, and fourth, against Harvard to win those three races.
While the Big Green collected wins against Yale and Boston College in previous rounds, they were unable to pick up wins against the Bulldogs and Eagles in the Top 4. Dartmouth went 0-3 in the round of four against Stanford, Yale, and Boston College, posting an 11-8 overall record for a fourth-place finish.
Dartmouth was able to collect a second place finishing position against Stanford in the Top 4, the eventual regatta winners, who lost only one race over the two days of competition.
Yale finished second overall, collecting the Ivy League title with a 13-6 record, followed by Boston College in third place. With their fourth-place finish, the Big Green did beat fellow Ivy Leagues Harvard, Penn, Cornell, and Brown.
The Big Green sailing team will have 19 days off before returning to the water and competing in the ICSA Women's Fleet Race and Open Fleet Race National Championships once again, hosted by MIT and Harvard on the Charles River.
