HANOVER, N.H. — The numbers continue to pile up for first-year pitcher
Jensin Hall. Last Saturday, it was a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts. This Saturday, it was a career-best 17 strikeouts in another complete-game shutout, marking the most for any Dartmouth pitcher against a Division I opponent in program history. Hall's dominant performance, along with timely hitting, including
Cwen Wilson's RBI triple and
Olivia Schramm's first career home run, powered the Big Green to a 3-0 series-opening win over Brown at the Dartmouth Softball Park.
17 ties the program record for single-game strikeouts, which was set by Brooke Plonka '22 against Division III Tufts on May 15, 2021. Kristen Rumley '15 previously recorded 15 punchouts against Elon on March 28, 2015. Only four players in Division I this season have recorded 17 or more strikeouts in a game, and Hall is one of the two first-years in that company.
With her fifth strikeout of the game, which was tallied on just her seventh batter faced, Hall reached 100 strikeouts on the season with 64.1 innings pitched to become the fastest to triple digits in a single season in program history. She is one of three first-years to tally 100 or more strikeouts in a season, joining Rumley and Christine Quattrochi '03.
Dartmouth scored its first run of the ballgame in the third inning thanks to
Kelly Beaupre's two-out single that scored
Mary Beth Cahalan. It was all Hall would need to secure the win, but the Big Green provided more run support an inning later when Wilson – one of the heroes of the statement win over Boston University - ripped a two-out RBI triple down the right field line. Another insurance run was added in the sixth when Schramm went yard to straightaway centerfield.
Hall's no-bit bid, which would have been her second no-hitter in her last three starts, was broken up in the sixth inning when Laurel Moody singled through the left side. After that hit, Hall struck out Brown's final four batters.
Following the victory, which improved the Big Green's Ivy League record to 4-2, Dartmouth turns its focus to Sunday's doubleheader. Game 1 against the Bears is set for 12:30 p.m. and Game 2 is slated for 2:30 p.m.
