HAMILTON, N.Y.—Dartmouth men's hockey fell to ECAC foe Colgate on Friday night by a 3-2 score.
The Raiders opened the scoring seven minutes into the game to take an early 1-0 lead.
In the reigning moments of the first period, the Big Green tied game at one. Luke Haymes picked up the puck in the neutral zone and dumped it off to CJ Foley. Foley skated the puck into the Colgate zone and toe dragged to the front of the net. Foley's shot was turned away, but Haymes was there to finish off the rebound for his fourth goal of the year. Foley picked up his 12th assist of the year.
After the first period, the Big Green and Raiders were tied at one with shots being 12-11 Colgate.
The Raiders scored the lone goal of the second period at the 12:33 mark to take a 2-1 lead.
Shots were tied at eight in the second period while faceoffs were also tied at 11 a side.
Dartmouth tied the game at two less than seven minutes into the third period. At the 6:44 mark of the period, Hayden Stavroff took a pass in the neutral zone from Hank Cleaves. Stavroff gained the Colgate zone and toe dragged between his legs to beat a Colgate defensemen. Stavroff then threw the puck towards the front of the net. Foley joined the rush and stopped right at the top of the crease, as he stopped the puck banked off his skate into the net for his sixth goal of the season. The first year tandem of Stavroff and Cleaves each picked up their seventh assists of the season.
At the 16:46 mark of the third period, Colgate took a 3-2 lead.
Despite a late power play and pulling netminder Road Clarke, the Big Green could not tie the game.
Clarke made 22 saves in the loss with 11 coming in the opening 20 minutes.
The Big Green allowed just one shot on two Colgate power plays.
Foley notched his fifth multi point game of the season, he is third in the ECAC among defensemen in total points with 18 while leading the group in points per game at .95. Foley also tallied a plus two rating on the night and leads the ECAC in plus/minus at +15.
Stavroff also tallied a plus two rating on the night.
The Big Green are back in action on Saturday night as they take on Cornell. Faceoff against the Big Red is slated four 7 PM in Ithaca, N.Y.
