CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Dartmouth women's hockey traveled to Harvard Saturday, wrapping the home and home series with the Crimson.
Harvard came to play, opening a 2-0 lead in the first period and holding on to defeat the Big Green, 3-0. With the loss, Dartmouth falls to 2-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in ECAC Hockey play.
The Crimson opened the scoring just under seven minutes into the first period. Just past the halfway mark of the period, they doubled their lead, making the score 2-0 headed into the first intermission.
The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Crimson into the final five minutes of the second period, before Harvard added its third goal of the game.
Michaela Hesová started in net for the Big Green, making 22 total saves, including 14 in the middle frame to keep Dartmouth within reach for over half the game.
Special teams play was also prevalent in Saturday's match, as each team committed six penalties. The penalty kill on both sides was dominant, as neither team was able to convert on the power play. Most of special teams play was in the third period, as each team committed three penalties in the final frame.
Though the Big Green were not able to score, their 27 shots on net were the most recorded in a game this season.
After the game, Head Coach
Maura Crowell said her team was simply not good enough.
"Harvard played really well, Dartmouth did not," Crowell said. "We weren't good enough, and they took it to us. They were tough. They were fast, and they desered that win."
The Big Green are right back at it next weekend, heading on the road to face the Brown Bears and Yale Bulldogs, both of which are receiving notice in the national polls.
"It's understanding that you get a couple big wins and people start noticing you and understanding that everybody wants to beat you," Crowell said about her focus for the upcoming week. "This is a rivalry series, so it's not like they were sleeping on Dartmouth, but nobody is, so you're not going to be able to come in with a B game or C game and get points. It's a good lesson for us to learn. We have to play the way we're supposed to play."
The Big Green will face off against the Brown Bears on Friday, November 14. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. You can watch the game on ESPN+ or follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com.
