NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Dartmouth women's hockey team headed to Yale for the Opening Round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs Saturday to face the Bulldogs.
Yale opened a 2-0 lead early and despite the Big Green pulling within one in the second period, the Bulldogs added two more goals to defeat the Big Green, 4-1.
With the loss, Dartmouth finishes the season 5-21-3.
The Bulldogs got on the board early, opening a 1-0 lead only 2:43 into the game. They would double their lead just before the halfway mark of the period, making the score 2-0 headed into the first intermission.
Head Coach
Maura Crowell said she saw a lot of fight in her team, especially with how they responded after the first period.
"It set us back on our heels… So to go down 2-0 after the first was a tough start, but once we reset, went into the locker room, I thought we came out with some fire in the second," Crowell said.
Dartmouth came out of the break strong, pulling within one just over two minutes into the period.
Ella Inglis carried the puck into the zone and around the net, sending a pass to
Bridget Pringle in the slot. Pringle got just enough on it to beat the Bulldogs' netminder, making it a one goal game.
Yale continued to push, finding two more goals in the second half of the middle frame to go up 4-1.
The Big Green played their best period through the final 20 minutes, attempting 21 shots, nine of which landed on net, both game highs. Yale held strong though, not allowing the Big Green to make the score any closer, as the Bulldogs earned the 4-1 win.
"We really unloaded some good shots, nine shots that period, by far the most we got all game, and put some pressure on them, and it made them have to play really hard today," Crowell said about her team's third period performance. "They're a good team. They play us really hard."
Michaela Hesová stopped 30 of the 34 shots she faced, breaking the program record for saves in a season and finishing her first-year with 848. She beats the previous record, held by Christine Honor (818, 2017-2018), by 30 saves.
While the Big Green's season comes to an end, Crowell said she has seen 'so much development in all phases of the ice' in her first season behind the bench.
"The way we play, our work ethic, the way we compete on a daily basis and how that translates onto the ice," Crowell said. "Obviously, some marquee wins in big games this season for our team. This is just the beginning."
Dartmouth will now shift its focus to the offseason as the Big Green continue to get better and prepare for the 2025-26 season.
"I'm excited for them, obviously, to take a little time off, get some rest and reflection on their season and then once we're back at it, we're going to go hard," Crowell said. "We need to get stronger, we need to get faster and I think they're excited about that."
