PROVIDENCE, R.I. – First year pitcher
Isabel Kirby earned her second win as the Dartmouth softball team completed the weekend sweep over Brown, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon from Brown Softball Field.
Kirby struck out five batters and only allowed two hits from the Bears. The Big Green combined for 10 hits over the seven innings.
The Big Green got on the board in the top of the second. It all started with a
Leila Hennessy single up the middle.
Jenna Brown was hit by a pitch and found herself on first.
Lauren Ben-Ezra followed that with a single to load the bases.
Alaana Panu hit a long single to bring home Hennessy and Brown, 2-0 Big Green.
In the top of the fourth, Dartmouth added more runs. Ben-Ezra reached first on a bunt and Panu reached on a fielder's choice.
Faby Serna doubled down the left field line to send Ben-Ezra and Panu home, 4-0 Big Green.
The Bears got the bats going in the bottom of the fourth and loaded the bases. Kirby struck out a batter and ended the inning leaving the three runners stranded and holding the Big Green lead.
In the top of the fifth,
Marilyn Beauvais reached on a fielding error and
Cwen Wilson ripped a single down the right field line to advance Beauvais to third.
Ava Davis pinch ran for Wilson and was later caught stealing but that allowed Beauvais to score, 5-0 Big Green.
The hits kept coming for Dartmouth with Panu doubling in the top of the sixth. A Serna single allowed Panu to score and the Big Green went ahead 6-0. Dartmouth held the Bears in the bottom of the inning and took the shutout victory, 6-0.
The Big Green return to action when they travel to Boston for a non-conference matchup with Boston University on Wednesday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m.
