HANOVER, N.H. — Following a 20-save performance in Saturday's 13-9 win over Brown, Dartmouth men's lacrosse senior goaltender
Mason Morel has been named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. Morel's third defensive honor of the season is the most in the Ivy League, with all coming in the last six weeks.
Â
Morel's 20 saves against the Bears marked his second 20+ save performance in four games (along with his 21 saves vs. Princeton). Saturday, he allowed just nine goals in Dartmouth's first win against Brown since 2007, giving the Big Green multiple Ivy League wins in a season for the first time since 2010.
Â
Morel stopped 9-of-11 shots in the first half to help the Big Green take an 8-2 halftime lead. Two Brown goals came in the final 21 seconds when the game was out of reach.
Â
For the season, Morel stands second nationally in saves per game (14.58) and eighth in save percentage (58.3).
Â
The Big Green wrap up their season on Saturday when they travel to No. 1 Cornell for a 12 p.m. opening faceoff.
