CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine – The Dartmouth alpine ski team competed in its first Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) carnival this past weekend, kicking off the Colby Carnival at Sugarloaf.

Through the slalom and giant slalom races, the Big Green sit in first place with 456 points.

In Friday's men's slalom race, Dartmouth placed three skiers in the top five. Â
Oscar Zimmer led the way for the Big Green, finishing second overall with a time of 1:28.31.

In his first race with the Big Green, junior
Louis de Pourtales finished just two tenths of a second behind Zimmer, posting a 1:28.56 good for third place and the podium finish.
Â
Philip Lundquist finished his first run with a 41.08 and his second in 47.78 to post a 1:28.86, good for fifth overall.
Â
Dan Gillis earned 15
th overall, posting a 1:29.70. First-year
Sawyer Reed rounded out the top-20, finishing in 1:30.53.
Heming Sola and
Benny Brown also raced for the Big Green but did not finish one of each of their respective runs.

The Big Green men led through day one with a total of 115 points.
On the women's side,
Carly Elsinger was the top Big Green finisher, posting a 1:32.42, good for fifth overall.
Emma Reynolds rounded out the top ten, earning ninth with a 1:33.08.

Sammi Trudeau was the next Dartmouth finisher, finishing 12
th overall with a 1:33.66. Riley Grosdider posted a 1:38.41 for 18
th overall to round out the Dartmouth finishers.

Beatrice May and
Emma Resnick also suited up but did not finish their respective runs.
Â
The women sat tied for second with 91 total points, just four points out of first place to help Dartmouth as a team to first overall with 206 points.

On Saturday, the Big Green competed in the giant slalom. Both the men and women won, posting 128 points and 122 points respectively to keep Dartmouth in first place with 456 total points.

Gillis and Sola led the way for the Big Green men on the giant slalom, finishing just three one hundredths of a second apart. Gillis posted a 2:10.06 to earn second while Sola finished in 2:10.09 for third, both earning their first podiums of the year.

Reed continued to impress, earning sixth overall with a 2:10.60. Zimmer finished just outside the top-ten, posting 11
th overall with a 2:10.83.

Lundquist was the next Big Green finisher, finishing 26
th with a 2:13.09.
Â
Brown and de Pourtales were also slated to compete. Brown did not finish his first run while de Pourtales did not start.

The alpine team will be back in action next weekend, heading to New York to finish the St. Lawrence Carnival. The Giant Slalom will take place on Thursday, January 22 before the carnival concludes with the slalom on Friday, January 23.

While the alpine team is wrapping the St. Lawrence carnival, the Nordic team will conclude the Colby Carnival. They will race the 7.5K Classic on Friday, January 23 and the 20K Freestyle on Saturday, January 24.
