HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's hockey welcomed the #14/#13 Yale Bulldogs to Thompson Arena, Friday. Despite an evenly played first period, momentum shifted in Yale's direction in the second period as the Bulldogs skated to a 3-0 win over the Big Green.
With the loss, Dartmouth falls to 4-13-2 overall and 2-7-2 in conference play.
The Big Green and nationally ranked Bulldogs were evenly matched in the first period. Both teams recorded eight shots on net, and each killed off one penalty.
Yale opened the game's scoring just past the eight-minute mark of the middle frame, taking a 1-0 lead before quickly responding just over two minutes later to double its lead. Before the period ended, the Bulldogs added another, making it a 3-0 game.
Michaela Hesová got the start, making 10 saves in the middle frame.
Head Coach
Maura Crowell liked the way her team played through the first period and most of the second, despite a few breakdowns.
"It was another good first period for us. Thought the first five to seven minutes we were all over them… It was a really balanced period," Crowell said.
After giving up the first two Yale goals, Crowell said her team settled in and balanced out the play, surrendering the third goal with only 15 seconds to play in the period.
"Heading into the third, we talked in the locker room about just doing the simple things well, not trying to be a hero when things aren't working well, continue to do the things that we do. And I thought we played much tougher, much simpler, much harder in the third," Crowell said about the final frame.
The Big Green were dominant in multiple phases of the game in the third period, winning just about half of the faceoffs, killing off three penalties, and in net.
Hesová stopped all 19 shots that came her way in the final period, bringing her game total to 37.
Crowell continued to praise her sophomore goaltender who was named to Team Czechia ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics this week.
"She was unbelievable, our best penalty killer. Just really dialed tonight," Crowell said. "One of the goals they had to whack at it three or four times to find the back of the net so that's on the rest of us. She's given us a chance to win and then some, so hopefully we can do a little better in front of her."
Dartmouth will be back in action Saturday afternoon, welcoming the Brown Bears to Thompson Arena. Crowell said the goal for her team is to continue to build off an overall strong performance Friday, despite the result.
Puck drop against the Bears is set for 3 p.m. Saturday is Youth Hockey Day; all youth that attend the game in a hockey jersey will receive free admission. You can watch the game on ESPN+, follow the live stats on DartmouthSports.com, or purchase tickets
