PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team opened the Ivy League Championship in record-breaking fashion, setting a new team record in the 200 medley relay to kick off the competition. Highlighting the relay was a massive lifetime-best split from Carinn Bethea on the 50 free anchor leg, where she dropped an incredible half-second to help secure the record-setting swim.
"There is no better way to open a competition than with a school record! I am very proud of the history that all our relay women created tonight and looking forward to seeing more of the team get after it tomorrow!" Head Coach Milana Socha said.
Dartmouth carried that momentum into the 800 free relay, delivering the third-fastest time in program history. Sydney Rawie set the tone as the leadoff swimmer with a lifetime-best performance that now ranks her as the eighth-fastest performer in the 200 free in Dartmouth history. Bethea continued her standout meet with another lifetime-best split, while Ekin Okudur also posted a lifetime best as part of the historic relay effort.
With record-breaking performances and multiple lifetime bests, the Big Green put together a statement showing to open the meet. Dartmouth will continue competing in the championship tomorrow, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m.
