TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Dartmouth women's softball team opened its season with a doubleheader on Friday, falling to Elon and No. 7 Florida State at JoAnn Graf Field.
Charley Maddox made her debut for the Big Green against Elon, recording her first career start in the circle.
GAME 1: Elon 10, Dartmouth 1
Elon claimed an 8-0 lead over Dartmouth in the top of the third inning, but the Big Green put themselves on the board shortly after. Samantha Gresham got things started, recording her first collegiate hit by doubling to left centerfield. Lauren Ben-Ezra hit a single, but advanced to second on a throwing error by Elon's Teagan Baulsir, pushing Gresham to third. A wild pitch allowed Gresham to cross home plate, giving Dartmouth its sole run of the game. A 2 RBI single in the top of the seventh inning gave Elon the 10-1 victory.
GAME 2: No. 7 Florida State 10, Dartmouth 2
Florida State opened scoring in Friday's second game, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Dartmouth responded in the top of the fourth when Faby Serna singled, followed by an Olivia Schramm RBI double that allowed Serna to score from first base. Marilyn Beauvais kept the action going with a walk, before Sydney Herrmann helped advance the runners to second and third. Beauvais advanced to third on a wild pitch, while Hayvin Barclay, pinch running for Schramm, scored her first career run.

The Big Green are back in action in Tallahassee tomorrow for day two of the Dugout Club Classic. They will open the day against Elon at 10 a.m. before concluding their Saturday competition against FSU at 12:30 p.m.
