PRINCETON, N.J.—Dartmouth men's swimming and diving completed the second day of the Ivy League Championship on Thursday. Thursday featured the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, one meter diving, and the 200 free relay. After day two of the meet the Big Green sit in seventh with 226 points.
In the 500 free prelims Issac Weigel finished with a time of 4:28.50 which is new personal best for the senior. The time was the seventh fastest time in program history.
Xavier Orlic also competed in the 500 free and turned in a time of 4:34.83 which was just .6 of second behind his personal best.
The 200 IM saw three members of the Big Green qualify for a spot in a final. Jacob Turner turned in the ninth best time of prelims with a time of 1:45.23. David Gal swam the 14th best time in prelims and joined Turner in the B Final. Jihoon Jung qualified for the C Final after turning in a time of 1:48.02.
Jagger Stachtaris and David Kushnirsky each turned in times of 1:49.52 and 1:53.08 but did not qualify for a spot in a final.
Turner won the B Final by over a second as he entered the final with the best time from prelims. He finished with a time of 1:43.99 which is below the NCAA standard which makes him eligible for selection to the NCAA National Championships. It is also the second fastest time in program history.
Gal swam his lifetime best in the B Final of the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.09, the time landed him third on the Dartmouth all-time record list.
Jung set a new personal best in his first Ivy League Championship with a time of 1:47.45 in the C Final of the 200 IM while also putting himself fifth in the Dartmouth record books.
William McClelland and Aiden Sandvig each competed in the 50 free prelims. McClelland missed the C Final by just .06 as he finished with a time of 20.07. Sandvig set a new career best as he went sub 21 seconds for the first time with a time of 20.83.
The Big Green saw three of their five divers qualify for finals. Adam Man qualified for the A Final with a prelim dive of 289.55. Both McCoy Lyman and Everett Tai each earned B Final appearances with dives of 283.85 and 285.40 respectively.
Michael Solomon and Aryeh Lesch each dove in the prelims. Solomon turned in a score of 249.15 while Lesch had a score of 243.75.
In the A Final Man finished with a score of 284.80 in his first Ivy League Championship.
Lyman turned a score of 289.25 in the B Final while Tai finished with a score of 271.90.
The 200 relay earned 44 points for the Big Green while turning in the second fastest time in program history with a time of 1:19.87. Andrew Chou turned in a personal best split in the final leg of the event with a time of 20.05.
The Big Green are back in the pool on Friday with prelims for the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back starting at 11:02 AM. 3 meter diving prelims start at 1:30 PM. The 1000 meter race is set to start at 4:30 PM. The day wraps up with the finals of the 100 free, 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and the 400 medley relay.
