HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women's tennis returned to Hanover following its spring trip to California, welcoming the Harvard Crimson to the Boss Tennis Center to open Ivy League play.
The Big Green, having won their past two matches, extended their winning streak to three, defeating the Crimson 4-3. This was Dartmouth's first win over the Crimson since 2016.
Dartmouth is now 12-4 overall and 1-0 against Ivy League opponents.
In doubles play,
Sam Grosjean and
Alexandra Orlins started the day with a 6-4 win at second doubles.
The third doubles pairing,
Josephine Lombardi and
Elise Wong were the second to finish. The pair fell to Harvard's Block and Rajaram, 6-3.
Peyton Capuano and
Michela Moore were once again paired at first doubles. The two juniors found to earn the doubles point for the Big Green, but fell 7-5.
The Big Green impressed in singles play, taking four of the six matches to secure the victory. Orlins' singles match in the third position was the first to conclude. She avenged her doubles loss by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win.
Capuano's first singles match concluded next as she also lost only three games across the two sets, earning the 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Lombardi played at sixth singles as her match was the next to finish. She fell 6-2, 6-3 as the Crimson pulled even to tie the match score at two.
Moore once again impressed at second singles. She posted a 6-2 first set win before following with a 6-3 win to pull the Big Green back in front.
Grosjean was slotted at fifth singles. After dropping the first set, she forced a tiebreaker in the second set, but fell 7-6, 7-5.
With the match score tied at three, it all came down to sophomore
Lauren Han's fourth singles match. Han fell in the first set, 6-4, but came back to win the next two. She posted a 6-4 second set victory before cruising to a 6-2 third set victory to claim the win over Harvard.
The Big Green defeated the Crimson for the first time since 2016, and in addition to having a perfect record against Ivy League opponents, are also perfect on their home court, 7-0.
Dartmouth will return to action and Ivy League play on Saturday, April 4 when it travels to take on the Penn Quakers. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
