SUVA, FIJI – Dartmouth women's rugby wrapped its once in a lifetime spring trip last week, finishing competition at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Tournament in Suva, Fiji.
Dartmouth, the only American collegiate team in attendance, posted a 2-2-1 record across their five matches.
The Big Green opened competition on Wednesday, March 25 against the Ezers Women's Club, as Dartmouth played to a 19-19 tie. Paola Arredondo Almeida, Hehea Pulotu, and Annie Henrich all scored tries for the Big Green. Henrich led the Big Green in scoring also adding two conversions for nine total points.
Dartmouth then went on to win two straight matches by impressive margins. The Big Green defeated Flametree COIO-I-SUVA 33-7 before posting a 24-5 victory over the Marist Rugby Club.
In the match against Flametree COIO-I-SUVA, the Big Green were once again led by Henrich who tallied 11 total points, three conversions and one try. Arredondo Almeida found her way on the scoreboard again with another try, while Katelyn Walker, Marley Larkin and Arielle Fotso all scored their first points of the tournament. Walker scored five points, one total try, and Larkin tallied 10 total points on two total tries. Fotso recorded one conversion for two points.
Pulotu led the scoring in the 24-5 win over the Marist Rugby Club. She scored one trie and added a conversion for seven points. Walker and Henrich continued to score for the Big Green, adding five and two points respectively. Vasiti Turagavou and Lauren Cheng also got on the scoreboard for their first points of the tournament, each tallying a try.
In the Knockout Round, the Big Green suffered their first loss of the day, falling to the Seahawks by only two points, dropping the 12-10 match. Walker and Vasiti scored the two tries for Dartmouth.
Dartmouth wrapped the tournament with one more match against Navy, falling 25-5. Walker scored the only points for the Big Green, wrapping the tournament with 20 total points, second most on the team.
Henrich led the way in scoring, recording 22 total points. Walker (20), and four additional players also tallied double digit points; Arredondo Almeida (10), Pulotu (12), Larkin (10), and Turagavou (10). Fotso and Cheng wrapped the tournament with two and five points respectively.
The Big Green will continue their quest for their second consecutive CRAA 7s National Championship on April 11 when they play in the Ivy 7s tournament hosted at Harvard.
