vs UNH Day 1 (EISA Championship)
Q and A with Laurel
Why Dartmouth?
I liked Dartmouth a lot when I visited, and was very impressed by my admissions interviewer's enthusiasm for the school and the ski team some 25 years after he graduated. What really sold me, though, was watching Animal House. Just kidding.
How long have you been skiing and what got you interested in skiing?
My parents started taking my brothers and I alpine skiing the winter after we moved to Salt Lake City, when we were 3 years old. I loved it, but decided I didn't want to race because I thought they would make me stop skiing out of bounds. A Norwegian friend of ours took us cross-country skiing, and that eventually led to me taking classes with The Utah Nordic Alliance, and then joining their competition team at age 13.
Tell me something interesting about you that might come as a surprise to your teammates.
I have practically no secrets from my teammates! But something interesting is that I am a triplet; my brother Todd is on the men's cross-country ski team here at Dartmouth, and my brother Zach is on the club cross-country ski team at Cornell University. We're also all physics majors.
What are your future plans, if any?
I'm planning to go to graduate school in physics next year (or possibly the year after), hopefully somewhere I can still ski.
What extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus?
Skiing and schoolwork take up most of my time, but I am also a WISP peer mentor and I do condensed-matter physics research with Prof. Ramanathan in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
