Men's Heavyweight Rowing
at Head of the Charles

Albert Monte is entering his seventh season with the Dartmouth heavyweight rowing team in 2020-21.
In July of 2017, he was elevated to associate head coach.
Monte came to the Upper Valley from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was the head coach of the men's rowing program at Bucknell. He joined the Bison's staff in 2008 as the freshman/assistant rowing coach, a role he fulfilled until 2011 when he became the program's head coach. In 2012, Monte was named the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Coach of the Year.
Prior to Bucknell, he was the head coach of the men's under 23 team at the Vesper Boat Club during the summers of 2011 and 2012, and was the head junior rowing coach at the Fairmount Rowing Association in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
Before he started coaching, Monte enjoyed a successful career of his own. He began rowing at Roman Catholic High School for Boys in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, represented the United States at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Athens, Greece, and was invited in 2006 to the World Under 23 Rowing Championships Selection Camp. He is also a two-time Royal Canadian Henley Regatta Champion and a six-time U.S. Rowing National Champion.
Monte was a four-year letterwinner at Holy Cross, leading the Crusaders to Patriot League titles in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Monte was elected captain in his senior year and, throughout his tenure at Holy Cross, the Varsity Eight was ranked in the national top 20 every year.
Monte graduated from Holy Cross in 2007 with a degree in history.
